can you have feelings for things without feelings?

I'm pretty sure you can. People can fall in love with robots/electronics just as easy as people. If you think about it, people fall in love with people that they don't even know. I was "in love" once. But, I was in love with the guy I wanted him to be, not who he was. So, I'm pretty sure people can fall in love with robots. Usually as long as something/someone gives you affection and makes you feel special you fall in love with it/them. Also, people love people who don't love them back just like loving a robot would be like. I'm not sure if this blog makes any sense, but the gist is you cant judge other peoples feelings. So if they say they're in love..how can you say they aren't?

well, in my opinion, you are right about people falling in love with robots can be a normal thing. However, nowadays the world is trying to unify under the same structure, under the same connections, with programs such as Facebook. People may fall in love with robots, but it may sometimes symbolically be ironic as to how the world wants to progress but it can't due to "overrated" love for robots.

I'd have to agree with your assessment, even for emotions that are less intense than love. How many of you have received a silly little bauble from a significant other (or someone you otherwise care greatly for) that you would normally do away with, but instead you kept it? How many of you have given pet names to your car?

I know several people who regularly participate in stage combat shows. Those who have their own, personal weapons often times give names to them and ALWAYS guard them ferociously. They consider their weapon an extension of themself; a friend who has saved their life many a time.

Developing feelings in your readers/viewers/players for things in your story that don't actually feel (or heck, may not actually even exist) sounds like an excellent way to ramp up the interactivity.

I do agree with your point that people can become affiliated to certain materials, but is it not true that sometimes you can do just that in order to gain confidence on your performance? By me calling my sword a certain name, it's not necessarily that I'm in love with it, it's that I'm confident that it will make me win. After all, things in which you put your trust into give you the winning confidence, is it not true?

As to that specific someone, it is hard to express your emotions because you know that they are real, that you will get a genuine response to your feelings. With objects it is different because you know that materials do not actually respond!
