Dramatic Structure: Blade Runner

So, I was watching Blade Runner, and I find that it has a very interesting storyline and concept. Here is the dramatic structure:

Exposition: In Los Angeles, 2019, Blade Runner Rick Deckard is called out of retirement when a replicant escapes after shooting a fellow Blade Runner who conducted a Voight-Kampff test to him. When Deckard is called out of retirement, his boss, Bryant, informs Deckard about the escape of 4 Nexus-6 replicants. These replicants are models only designed for a short lifespan in order to prevent the development of emotions and the want for independence.

Conflict: Deckard is ordered to destroy the 4 Nexus-6 replicants: Roy Batty, Leon Kowalski, Zhora, and Pris.

Rising Action: Deckard is teamed up with Gaff. Together, they follow orders and clues to finding the 4 replicants.

Climax: Deckard tries to defeat Roy at J.F. Sebastian's building. Attempting to escape, Deckard jumps off the rooftop only to fall short, ending up holding on to a slippery beam of another building. Roy then jumps there as Deckard struggles to climb up. When Deckard falls, Roy manages to grab him and haul him onto the roof.

Falling Action: After Roy hauls up Deckard, he delivers a soliloquy as his life fades away: "I've seen things people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die." (See video below)

Resolution: Roy dies in peace. Deckard is left when Gaff states that Rachael wont live. Deckard then heads back to his apartment, relieved that Rachael was still alive on his couch. As they leave, Deckard finds an origami unicorn, a symbol of Gaff.

Overall, the thing I loved about this movie was the design. I found the special effects interesting. I liked the way the director from 1982 visioned the look of 2019. He put some popular companies like Coca Cola onto those flashy electronic screen boards. He also made 2019 appear like it has been ruled by large, pyramid like corporations. I also liked the part where Roy perform a dramatic speech before he dies. To me, that is like a classic way of ending a movie. Despite the slow pacing, Blade Runner will always be one of the coolest, classic sci-fi films.
