(back)Story

Premise: The story centers around a young, transgender child and his family. The child underwent gender reassignment surgery about 6-8 months ago (from present/launch).

Family
Location: California, smaller town/suburb. Have to travel to a larger city for the surgery.
Child: Samantha (formerly Samuel) Clark, 5 (at the time of surgery, mayb (s)he's 6 now?)
---Sam has always felt like he was a girl. His parents initially thought his playing with dolls and wanting to wear dresses was just a phase.
---Has a pet dog. It's a shelter dog with some kind of brain trauma, so it's a little slow and requires special care. It's Sam's best friend.
Mother: Susan Clark, 37
---Lawyer; California native
---She and her husband had trouble concieving and Susan had either a miscarriage or lost her first child (maybe it should have been a girl?) shortly after birth. After a few years of trying they finally had Samuel.
Father: Jeff Clark, 40
---Teacher (HS or middles school maybe?)
---Born in the midwest, moved to California for college where he met his wife Susan.
Grandparents (father's side): Unnamed presently
---At one point in the past (maybe about a year prior to surgery?) they pursued legal action to remove Sam from his parents custody because they did not approve of their handling of the situation and felt that it was just a phase/their parenting that caused Sam to want to be a girl.

Other
Doctor: Porter Anderson, 57
---Pediatric Surgeon (?); Specalizes in gender reassignment surgery
---Affiliated with UCLA, but runs an independent clinic

Um... I think that's about it for now.
[EDIT] Forgot the dog!

It does not hurt to ask our friend Dr.Phineas if he is willing to do the operation. It could be performed at the RYT Hospital. Just a thought.

@arturo: That'd be awesome. Do you really think he'd be interested?

I know Alberto Nieto wrote to him with a question and got an immediate response. So, like I said, it does not hurt to ask. Just be specific. I don't know how busy he is at the moment. It would involve making a page to insert on his RYT site or perhaps it could be as simple as adding a link to this list:
http://www.rythospital.com/research/
so when someone clicks there they are redirected to another page with info about the doctor and his research for example. So the only way to communicate with the doctor if any one inquires would be via email and you could then respond to that.
If I were you I would mock-up a page using his header and the same look and feel for the rest of the page and if he accepts it maybe he puts it up. If not you already have a page that could be a start following the same structure as his RYT site as a model.

More on what Matt mentioned

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=62010

I think in view of that you have to step up a notch, maybe the number of cases (or 2 in the same family?)
Of course the main difference is the age, and that is a big one.
