Memories and fading stories

Memories are webs of relationships and stories of the past. These installations from Deborah Aschheim capture, reconnect and work as a surrogate memory for a fragmented past, reconstructed from snipets of time in the form of old videos, photographs and words.
Much of the drawing was about my Great-Aunt Didi,
who lived a life of verbal and intellectual engagement,
but was rendered mute by aphasia, which stole
her language and left her isolated from the world.
