Interactive Storytelling
What is Interactive Storytelling? According to Chris Crawford interactive storytelling is "a form of interactive entertainment in which the player plays the role of the protagonist in a dramatically rich environment."
As I sat in the comfortable chair in my academic advisor's office choosing classes I came across a course titled Interactive Storytelling. My first thought was, what is interactive storytelling? I asked my advisor for a quick description of the course and to my suprise she couldn't explain it to me because she didnt have a clear understanding of the course either. She tried to gain crediblity by stated the obvious, "it must have something to do with storytelling." As I giggled to myself I continued to ask myself, what is interactive storytelling? After admitting we were stumped she pulled up a course description that only made things worst. The description of the course made it sound interesting but still left me questiong what interactive storytelling was. So I decided I would give it a shot, afterall what's so hard about telling a story.
After three course meetings I think I am finally grasping the meaning of interactive storytelling. To me interactive storytelling is simply telling a story but in a way where the story is not only told but told while involving the actions or input of the audience or player. There are many, many examples of interactive story telling, from using the physiology of the body as stated by The Bhav, to using the digital world stated by Mesha. Interactive Storytelling is not just telling a story but "a form of interactive entertainment in which the player plays the role of the protagonist in a dramatically rich environment."
