Mario Paint, anyone?
So I don't know how many of you had just about ever game for SNES like I did... I have three brothers, so I had good reason to have so many games. ANYWAY! Any of you remember Mario Paint? I know I do, and I know I remember the music editor on there. Well who would guess that people actually made that music editor into a software that you can download onto your computer? Guess what... I have it. Now, naturally, I suck at it. But some people don't suck at it so much. In fact, some people are quite awesome at it. There are actually composition competitions with the software. Allow me to show you an example of someone's handy work with mario paint editor...

So if you watched it, you have now officially been paint roll'd. Congratulations. You have to admit, though, that it took some serious talent to make that. I'd really suggest you check out some more of those mario paint videos. Some of the original compositions are pretty awesome, as well as some of the song covers. If you would like the mario paint composer, you can download it here:

Let me know if you decide to try it out. It's a lot of fun, but it's also extremely frustrating... Hope you all enjoy it.

If you're interested, Nintendo did make a bunch of spiritual successors to Mario Paint in the "Mario Artist" series. Unfortunately, these were only released on the Japanese-exclusive Nintendo 64 Disk Drive and some of the titles were cancelled outright. There's some more info about it on Wikipedia and you can watch videos of it on Youtube.

You should also check out Wario Ware D.I.Y. for the DS. The software lets you make your own microgames and the interface for the sprite editor is lifted straight from Mario Paint. It also has a more robust version of the music editor. I think I'll blog about it later.
