Transformers: Linkin Park - "New Divide"
The first music video that I've decided to blog on is New Divide, because it reminded me of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The video had a lot of special effects such as geometric wave like architecture, X-Ray view of the band, blue/white colored smoke/ fire and wind effects, and scenes from Transformers. The video and lyrics both tell stories of memories of fate, or in other words, bad pasts. The video showed these "abandoned memories" through series of transformer scenes, war scenes, and other flashed memories such as Sam's girlfriend overlooking the viewer. Based on one lyric "There was nothing in sight but memories left abandonded...." I can infer that they have been filled with endless nightmarish memories that would never go away. For example, a scene was shown where Sam and his girlfriend were running away from an immense explosion during the lyrics: "Let the floods cross the distance in year eyes..." In another scene, the video enters into a deserted cave full of destroyed transformer parts. These shattered parts of robots are metaphorical representations of those flashbacks presented throughout the video.
Basically, the "New divide" is the endless horizon of terrifying memoriesof war and lies. The main character seeks "to wash his memory clean" by finding the truth by asking the viewer to give him reasons why he should find the truth. I think the best way to rid of these endless, dreadful pasts is to live your life to the fullest and leaving the past in history. It may be hard to overcome challenging memories, but there is always a solution to even the most difficult obstacles that anyone can face.
All in all, I believe that this video was a great way of expressing this perspective of bad memories. I liked how the artist entailed and mixed different architectural, geometric like forms with scenes from transformers. Many of these scenes from Transformers signified the abandoned and frighting memories. Based on the story, I believe that this was the most creative, unique way of expressing one's perspective.

P.S.: Here's the lyrics:
I remembered black skies, the lightning all around me
I remembered each flash as time began to blur
Like a startling sign that fate had finally found me
And your voice was all I heard that I get what I deserve
So give me reason to prove me wrong, to wash this memory clean
Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes
Give me reason to fill this hole, connect the space between
Let it be enough to reach the truth that lies across this new divide
There was nothing in sight but memories left abandoned
There was nowhere to hide, the ashes fell like snow
And the ground caved in between where we were standing
And your voice was all I heard that I get what I deserve
So give me reason to prove me wrong, to wash this memory clean
Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes across this new divide
In every loss, in every lie, in every truth that you'd deny
And each regret and each goodbye was a mistake too great to hide
And your voice was all I heard that I get what I deserve
So give me reason to prove me wrong, to wash this memory clean
Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes
Give me reason to fill this hole, connect the space between
Let it be enough to reach the truth that lies across this new divide
Across this new divide, across this new divide
I remembered black skies, the lightning all around me
I remembered each flash as time began to blur
Like a startling sign that fate had finally found me
And your voice was all I heard that I get what I deserve
So give me reason to prove me wrong, to wash this memory clean
