Stop Motion Disconcertion
My first memory of a stop motion movie was Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers. This was a fun, cheerily colored film that told a fun story of mechanical trousers run amok.
Fun, cheery films are awesome. So when I saw this in class -
-GAAAH possessed baby heads GAHHH! - Um, sorry about that. When I saw the Quay Brothers' work in class, I was struck by the difference in color palette, lighting, and - AHHH why are its eyes glowing? -Ahem. What I mean to say is that the dark color palette, perspective on level with the faces of the demon dolls, jerky doll movement, and unsettling music all contribute to drag the viewer into the spooky world of the Quay Brothers. Well done. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to look at adorable kittens on cuteoverload.com
