I remember the first time I heard the song, I just imagined something extremely racy like how most music videos these days appear. Not once did it cross my mind that they'd be in some fairy tail world where a place called Candy Mountain might possibly exist. Here is what I'm talking about:






So, the lyrics really don't match up with the visuals at all. Where the grass is always greener and everything is warm, wet and wild, there are ice cream cones everywhere. Laying underneath the palm trees instead portrays women trapped in bubbles. When she says "sex on the beach," she's poking jello. If I had an interpretation for that, I'd lay it out, but I would rather not think about it. Surprisingly, there is an actual point in the video where a popsicle melts at 2:38.
Overall, I think the majority of people that listen to this song don't even think about the lyrics. They are mildly inappropriate to say the least-- the lyrics themselves I mean. If you were to watch the video itself without lyrics, you'd be getting an entirely different message, but the half-nakedness still gives off the same vibe. It appears all music videos these days have to portray something provoking... But then again, it is Katy Perry-- these California Gurls sure are unforgettable.
