Bad Day?

I don't really watch many music videos, since MTV was banned from my house when i was little pretty much, so my library of choice for this assignment was limited to say the least. However, I chose this video primarily because it tells a story. The screen is divided in several portions of the video to show parallel stories that eventually merge and we see as the characters find a common tie as they graffiti the billboard. The idea that the lyrics convey of having a bad day and falling into routine are portrayed in the beginning as the characters change clothes as the days pass but they perform the same repeated tasks.

The point is they laugh at what you say

Even though the lyrics say nothing about falling in love, this 'passion' that was 'needed the most' is interpreted in the video as the characters find each other and in essence this brightens their bad day. I think that the idea of incorporating love and relationships into the video made it that much easier to relate to.The song could have been about having a bad day because of anything else, but because the music video makes it about companionship and relationships it makes it something marketable, something the audience can automatically relate to. And although we all KNOW the characters are going to end up meeting each other and falling in love and living happily ever after, because it's about love, it keeps the audience watching.
