This is the winner of 2008 Short Film Festival: Short Film Central.

A melancholic trip into the depths of the memory of and old man who has managed to survive the end of his world. A true story tower.

The film was beautiful. It really brightened my day. In this short film, it explored the wonders of family, commitment, and personal happiness in such a tasteful manner. I feel connected to the central character. The scenario reminded me of the movie "Father of the Bride" (1991) with George Banks. Despite the "interactions" in life, there are linear stops on this path that public perceptions persuades a majority of people to focus on.

1. find the special someone
2. living happily with the special someone
3. start a family
4. see your children grow up and start a family
5. losing your special someone

However, on this path, everyone is alone in the beginning and at the end. There is this quote by Orson Welles, an American actor, that goes "We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone." The film also reminded me of my Marriage and Family class, which focused on dissolving the popular rumors behind marriage and family values in this society. What is the perfect family? Is there such a thing?
