Pd Experimentation and Project Direction
I've been trying out Pd a bit and its looking quite interesting though a bit difficult to really get started. Part of the difficulty in getting started is related to the fact that the help browser on my desktop (my primary computer) is functioning at the level of zero (the example are failing to open unlike my laptop). I am attempting to make a method of video playback via paths and time code references for input options to create a very molded playback device ready for choice response but with out a help browser if i want and example I have to open it the old fashion way. Overall I think it is moving slow but in a direction.
My idea is really just a refined version of a classic that won't necessarily be recognized fully in the span of this summer course but in that I will get all of the ground work laid and have a rough working sample of a story that would be more of a skeleton of the story and idea than a fully fleshed item. When I say this I plan to have the story reasonably constructed in idea in flow with a choice structure and overall plot developed. It might be potentially limited to just the start of a really involved story but enough to have a variety of options. A large item that it would lack would be filmed or animated items. Getting the structure in place would make creating that rather unreasonable in my opinion so a more story boarded example with some sort of motion to the simplest order to show flow would be implemented.
This idea is taking the simple story with questions that change the direction but instead of taking a story and simply applying a question with different sorts of outcomes to an existing story it would be much more integrated. Questions would be worked into dialog and implied by actions of the characters. The answers would be input at times when the viewer thinks there is a question or when indicated by something not necessarily stopping the story in anyway. Another part of this would be the ability for the story to progress even if a choice wasn't made, a sort of default choice for each intersection of the story. Also the ability to collect data on when a testing group tried to answer a question that may not have existed would allow the writer to consider option for fleshing out a choice segment from that point that would still tie into the existing story later on. Its still a lot of idea with just the starts of the mechanisms that would be required to make the idea work let alone all of the story components for a testing item. In the next few days I plan to make the starts of the story's choices and ways to tie things into each other to reduce the sheer amount of directions to plan.
I think that may be enough to start, I'm really going to attempt to get a bit better at summarizing and refining ideas quicker and more efficiently. I do believe that I need to work on my blogging.
