Cloud Atlas - Jim Sturgess’ Multiple Lives
Overview:
So I guess main reason as to why I chose to talk about Jim Sturgess timeline is because I noticed that in them he likes to be of help to people, even if it means throwing away his own safety, for example he puts himself in danger when he tries to help Autua in the 1849 timeline, or even in 2012 where he smashes a keg over Noake’s head, the mean old caretaker and in 2144 where he risk and gives up his life for Sonmi-451. Like he genuinely cares for others and tries to do his best, maybe that why he stuck out to me.
Multiple Characters and timelines:
Adam Ewing - 1849
In this timeline he is known as Adam Ewing, a lawyer who travels to Chatham on behalf of his father in law. Adam is there to do business with a man named Giles Horrox and while they walk outside to discuss business Adam witnesses the whipping of a Moriori slave, they make eye contacts and then Adam faints. A doctor names Goose helps Adam and feeds him a bizarre elixir. Flash a little forward and Adam, Giles, and Dr. Goose are on a ship with Captain Molyneux ( I forgot where they were sailing ) Anywho, Adam is exploring the ship when he runs into a stow away, the stow away ends up being the poor Moriori slave that was being whipped, his named being Autua. Adam and Autua become friends and Adam tries to get the others to let him work on the ship.
The captain tells Autua he wants to see him set up the sails for the ship, which Autua does but little does he know the Captan orders one of his men to kill him. Adam yells and bumps into the armed man and the shot misses Autua but the armed man gets up and knocks Adam out. We are the shown Dr. Goose giving Adam more elixir ( which we found out was to get rid of parasites?? ) but we find out that that elixir is actually poisoning and it has been killing Adam slowly. Dr. Goose then tries to give Adam more poison until Autua comes and saves the day. They then return to America and Adam and his wife make the father denounce his complicity in slavery.
Poor Hotel Guest - 1936
Only known as the, “Poor Hotel Guest” that’s exactly what he is, he is only in the story for a split second.
Megan’s Dad - 1973
Only spotted in a photograph shown by Luisa Rey.
London - 2012
Known as “Highlander”, he is seen watching a sporting event on T.v in an Irish pub. You don’t see much of him until the end where he smashes a keg over Nurse Noake’s Head.
Neo Seoul - 2144
In this timeline he is known as Hae-Joo Chang, and his story begins with the night after Yoona-939 was killed ( one of the girls who worked at the futuristic restaurant, she was the one that was killed after trying to run away ) Sonmi-451 is awaked and leaves her sleep box, she hears a noise and talks a walk only to see Hae-Joo standing over the body of the manager of the restaurant. Sonmi-451 gets frightened and tries to get away but Hae-Joo lets her know that it’s okay and that she has two options, stay here and wait for the police or go with him. She does and he brings her to a doctor ( who is played by Halle Berry) and they manage to get her collar off without it exploding. They are then ambushed by enforcements, we are shown that Hae-Joo is very skilled with weaponry and ends up taking down the entire team however, during the battle Hae-Joo is seen to have fallen to his death.
Sonmi-451 is taken into custody and before she can be brought into another room a gard comes out and kills all the others, it’s actually Hae-Joo. They both escape and as some time passes Hae-Joo sneaks Sonmi-451 into a factory where he tells her that they have been harvesting people like her for “soap”, a food source if you will. She’s obviously upset and he comforts her and Sonmi-451 says that she wants to tell the world so she does in a press conference type thing. Hae-Joo agrees an they are ambushed once again, he dies protecting Sonmi-451 but not before the two exchanged a heartfelt look.
Big Isle - 2321
Okay so from my understanding this is still the 1849 timeline but after the 2144 timeline which wikipedia calls the “Big Isle 106, winters after the fall”.I guess it’s the good ending of this story. I do like it though, because in the 2144 timeline Sonmi-451 said she loved Hae-Joo Chang and that in another life she wished they could have lived happily together and now they do. Also I don't know if anyone noticed by in the beginning of this timeline in another universe I guess, he played Zachary, the guy who was friends with Tom Hanks and him and his son were killed by the other tribe. So yeah, little fun fact.
