Elephants Dream
I was going to post this animation when I saw Odyssey's modeling tutorial post. So I think this is relevant. Some people seem to think that Open Source tools are less capable than their expensive counterparts. Blender is one case. Yes, it's interface is quirky, specially if you are used to Maya or 3DMax. But if you have used neither, there is no reason why you could not feel comfortable using it as your primary 3D tool.
Elephants Dream is a very good example of Blender's capabilities. Needles to say this film took a LOT of hours, weeks, months to create and finish, but it is worth it. A very important thing, is that the film was released under Creative Commons (CC) so under that license you can remix, re-edit or integrate it into another work. So, feel free to create your own dreams or nightmares.

This is one of two films created by Blender Foundation. You should also check blender.org for more information, tutorials, examples etc.
Here is a nice example of a remix
Finally, if you are interested in learning more about the making of Elephants Dream there is this conference where the authors explained a ton of stuff!
Happy Blending!
