Andrew Stanton, the director of WALL-E and Finding Nemo, will soon be coming out with his first live action film, John Carter, based on Edgar Rice Burroughs classic 1912 science fiction novel. In this trailer, we can see liberal use of 3D graphics to bring creatures and characters to life. I've noticed a variety of people knocking this film for being derivative of both Avatar and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. I'd like to highlight that while these things are executed similarly, they were present in the original novel, and many modern Sci-Fi cliches originate from John Carter. Andrew Stanton is a director that has proven himself with computer graphics before so it will be interesting to see how he combines that with live action.
